Tourlestrane repeated their feat of 2007 in beating Eastern Harps to claim the Sligo senior football title yesterday
A 41st-minute goal from midfielder Shane Dunne proved decisive in wet and slippery conditions at Markievicz Park.
Dunne finished superbly past Brendan McHugh in the Harps goal after some good approach work by Gary Gaughan, John Marren and Gerry McGowan.
Harps claimed the first two scores of the game through Paul Taylor frees, but failed to score again for the remainder of a very disappointing opening half.
Scores from Dunne, defender Noel Gaughan and a Marren free edged the south Sligo side into a 0-3 to 0-2 half-time lead. Taylor traded scores with McGowan early in the second period, before Dunne struck for the game's only goal 11 minutes into the half.
The current champions were left chasing the game from this point on, but another pointed Taylor free and their first score from play from a 45th-minute Shaun Dorrian effort narrowed the gap to three points, 1-5 to 0-5.
McGowan enjoyed a fruitful second half, however, and he pointed again from play two minutes later.
Kevin Gallagher did briefly give Harps hope when he pointed superbly after some fine work by the impressive Ross Donovan.
And Kevin Cryan drove forward from his corner-back slot to fire over an excellent point in the closing stages.
But another point from captain McGowan, this time from a free, and an excellent score by Eamon O'Hara on the stroke of full-time ensured that the Owen B Hunt trophy returned to Tourlestrane.
