Congratulations to our senior and minor footballers who have both qulaified for their respective county finals with great wins last week.
On thursday our minors defeated Curry at home in the semi final of the Minor B Championship on a score of 4-08 to 1-07 with a powerful display. We now face the winners of Eastern Harps and St Pats in the final on Sunday week.
Our senior footballers won't get the same break as the reward for a defeat of old rivals Eastern Harps is a county final place on this Sunday at 5pm in Markievicz PArk. The game is later to facilitate live radio coverage on Ocean FM.
The semi final win over Harps was a measure of the never say die attitude of both teams. Despite playing against a stiif breeze and the driving rain our backs did a great job containing Harps well in the first half to be down by 06 to 03. We could have been level had the Harps keeper not made a fantastic save from a Shane Dunne shot. Playing with the elements at our back and with great points from James Leonard and Brian Egan we had equalises and took the lead of two points 09 to 07 with a great Gary Gaughan point, only for Harps to take the initiative and score 2 great points to equalise with the clock ticking down, in injury time we managed to creat a couple of scoring chances but it was left to John Quinn with a fantastic fetch and got away from his marker to kick a point fitting of winning a semi final from 30m. This was a great team performance from Seamus Gildea, who's relieving lengthy kickouts against the elements gave our tight backs respite, to the tireless running of the Substitute Alan Dunne. The work rate of the whole team combined to produce this great result. There were a number of weary bodies in the dressing room at the end and we will have a busy treatment table this week to be ready for Sunday, which isn our 3rd final in a row.
Once again the support for the lads was fantastic despite the inclement conditions and the green and gold was in evidence all round the field.
