Our Senior Hurlers played Cluainin Iomaint from Manorhamilton today in Tourlestrane in Round 1 of the Táin League. There was a strong southerly wind which made it a game of two halves. Tourlestrane played with the wind in the first half and led by 2:08 to 0:07 at half time. Ruaidhri Brennan was in fine form scoring 1:07 in the first half, all from play except for 2 points from 65m frees. The county Leitrim opponents came out for the second half with the wind at their backs and determined to turn the game around. They scored 1:04 without reply to leave the sides level with 5 minutes remaining on the clock. Niall Durkin was called into action and with his first possession scored a badly need point to leave Tourlestrane one up. Cluainin Iomaint scored another point from a free to level it again with the game heading into injury time. From Tourlestrane's final attacking move, Patrick Burke scored from play to earn a one point win on a scoreline of 2:10 to 1:12. The game was keenly contested by two clubs where in the last four games no more than two points separated the teams in any game. The Galway referee done a great job officiating the game and complemented both teams afterwards for the quality and sporting manner the game was played in. The team now have a 3 week break before they travel to Carrick to play in round 2 of the competition on Saturday the 27th of February at 2pm.
