Our Senior Men recorded a hard fought victory over Coolaney/Mullinabreena in the Sligo Senior Championship Quarter Final on Saturday evening last in Kilcoyne Park, Tubbercurry. The conditions were far from idyllic as the rain poured down at throw in.
Raymond Connolly and Seán Gorman opened the scoring with two well taken points in the opening 7 minutes of the game before the later was saw a black carded. Cathal Henry opened the scoring for Tourlestrane with a free from play in the 12th minute with Shane O'Brien and Alan Dunne exchanging scores soon after. Brian Kennedy and John Marren were then introduced for the injured John Francis Carr and Niall Egan respectively.
Gary Gaughan put over in the 20th minute of the game to level things up but the game swung back in Coolaney Mullinabreena's favour soon after with a well taken goal from their captain Shane O'Brien after good work from Criostoir Davey. In the closing 5 minutes of the half, there was an abundance of well take scores with Shane Dunne registering twice on the scoreboard. Shane O' Brien then popped up again with a fine effort from play. Cathal Henry and Gary Gaughan then replied in the closing stages of the first half before Daniel Davey pushed his side back into the lead. The teams went in at half time on a score of Tourlestrane 0-7 Coolaney/Mullinabreena 1-5.
It took Liam Gaughan 2 minutes to level things up at the start of the second half but Coolaney Mullinabreena were then to enter their purple patch. 3 points followed from play for the men in blue with Shane O'Brien, Criostoir Davey and Daniel Davey pushing their team lead out to 1-8 to 0-8 points with 10 minutes gone. The introduction of John Quinn came in the 13th minute of the second half as Barry Walsh was the third injury victim for the Tourlestrane team. Quinn quickly got into the game scoring two consecutive scores before James Leonard levelled the game in the 19th minute. Quinn then registered his third score of the game when he converted a vital free in the 22nd minute. The score was ultimately the winning score of the game. Coolaney Mullinabreena pressed and searched for the equalising score but the Tourlestrane defence held out for a win.
Tourlestrane now go forward to the Sligo Senior Championship Semi Final on Sunday, the 11th of September, when they will take on Eastern Harps at 5pm in Markievicz Park.

The Junior A team have progressed to the semi-final of the competition following their fine win over Cloonacool recently. The team take on Eastern Harps at 6pm this Saturday the 10th of September in Cloonacool.
Congratulations to our Minor boys’ team who recorded a big win in the championship quarter final away to Curry on Friday last. Massive commitment on display with the game going into extra time. It was the green and gold who powered through on this occasion for a hard earned, 1-23 to 2-15, win over our close neighbours who never gave up. A very proud management team of David Bailey, Stephen Henry Jnr, Paddy Henry and Adrian McIntyre now look forward to getting the team prepared for the Semi Final of the competition.
Our U-16 boys are playing in the A2 championship county final in Scarden this Monday the 5th of September at 6.30pm against Ballymote/Bunninaden. All support would be greatly appreciated.
Our Minor Ladies team have qualified for the Minor Championship final having secured a 9-10 to 5-8 win over Calry on Sunday morning.
Well done to our U-14 Ladies team who have qualified for the A Championship Final following a 2-10 to 3-4 win over Shamrock Gaels on Saturday night.
Our U-12 girls have qualified for the A Championship Final on Saturday week, the 10th of September. The game takes place in Kilcoyne Park, Tubbercurry, when the girls will take on CT Gaels.
Well done to our Senior Hurlers who won the Martin Brennan Memorial Cup on Wednesday evening last when the team overcame Coolera. 1-13 to 1-11 the score at the final whistle.
