Our club had a very successful weekend on the playing field with both our Senior and Junior Men's teams qualifying for Championship County Finals within 24 hours.
The Juniors took to the field first, the team played Eastern Harps in the semi final of the Junior B championship in Curry on Saturday night. The team got off to a great start with some well taken points but Eastern Harps broke through the defence just before half time for a second goal to leave the score at the half way mark, 2-3 to 1-5. Tourlestrane came out a hungrier team in the second half and a blitz of 3 goals in 4 minutes, sealed the win for the team on a scoreline of 5-8 to 2-5. The team play St. John's in the final this Saturday the 21st of September at 4.30pm in Markievicz Park. Best wishes to all players and management involved.
The Senior men took to the field on Sunday afternoon in a repeat of last years county semi final fixture. Opting to play with the wind in the first half, the team were slow to get their first score but it came on the 13th minute with a well taken score from minor player, Cathal Henry. Following this score came a blitz of excellent points from Briian Egan (0-3), John Quinn (0-2) , Eamonn O'Hara, John Kelly with Shane Dunne striking over just before half time leaving the score 0-9 to 0-1 in Tourlestrane's favour. Against the wind in the second half, the teams determination and hunger never faded with further scores from Brian Egan (0-2), James Leonard, Barry Walsh and Alan Dunne leaving the full time score 0-14 to 0-4. The team have now qualified for the Belfry Senior Championship final on Sunday the 6th of October against neighbours, Tubbercurry. A special message of thanks, again, to our clubs main sponsor, Celtic Sheet Metal Inc, New York.
The Intermediate ladies are still awaiting their opponents for their county final as Curry and St. Michael's played out a draw at the weekend. This means that the county final will not take place this weekend as the replay is taking place. The final will now go ahead on the weekend of the 28th of September.
Congratulations to former ladies captain, Laura Hegarty and husband Aidan Higgins on the birth of their son, Kalem, recently.
With 3 adult teams into county finals, we urge supporters and households around the parish to get the green and yellow colours out to show your support for the 60 plus players involved in their respective finals.
The Minor boys secured their semi final spot in the Minor A Championship last week. The team take on Easkey on Thursday in Tourlestrane at 6.30pm. Many of this team featured for the victorious Senior and Junior teams over the weekend. Please support the team.
Our U-16 boys lost to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool in the U-16 A Championship semi final on Monday last on final score of 2-7 to 0-6 points. The team have provided some highly entertaining and intense games over their league and championship campaign and huge credit goes to the players and management involved.
